These damage the fruits of the trees:
The fruit flies are commonly known pests. They attack the fruits of the trees. They damage the texture of the fruits; the taste of the fruit is also damaged. So the fruits which are infected by these flies are unfit for consumption. Some of the fruit flies also make tunnel inside the fruits for example the apple maggot worm. Since it tunnels inside the fruit it is called a rail road worm. These tunnels are mainly caused in the apple fruits rarely in hawthorn, cherries, and pears. This fly creates meandering brown streaks inside the fruit which cause its decay. Similarly the cherry fruit fly tunnels in side the cherry fruit and damages it completely. Most of the fruit flies damage the fruits in the form of larvae. These larvae cause furrowed wounds on the fruit surfaces. Note that the yellow panels are very attractive to the insects. So if you want to trap these insects on sticky yellow cards. These traps are very effective to control the insects. You can use these sticky cards when the insects are very active. Afterwards you can use different traps. For example you can use “Super apple” which is really a sticky tape that resembles an apple. When this sticky tape is hung on the tree then it acts like a supper attractant for the female files. Since they seek out to lay eggs on the apple it is slightly larger then the real apple.
One more important thing while managing the fruit flies is to clean out the infested fruits. Pick the infested fruits and then destroy them so that the developing insects in the fruits are destroyed. Fruit flies also prefer wild varieties of fruit bearing plants for example the plants like hawthorn and black cherry. If pests are a major problem in your area then you must control the growth of these plants.
The population of fruit flies can be controlled and suppressed very easily if you pay attention to the harvest. You can prevent fruit flies from infecting the fruit is by harvesting the fruits before the breeding season of these fruit flies.
So this is how you can control the fruit flies in your home orchards very effectively.
