Flowering Pear Trees

The pear trees are mainly from the temperate conditions. They are widely used as ornamental trees. They have good attractive flowers, they all bloom at a same time, and the entire trees cover themselves with flowers. In addition to this, they also bear edible fruits. There are varieties available that grow good height and there are varieties that are dwarf. Both these varieties are widely used for the plantation.

You can also grow them in the gardens or the backyard of your house. You can choose from the varieties like Mangness, Waite, Bartlett, and Seckel. You should use a combination of these, as it would allow pollination.

Conditions

They are cold countries plants. They can withstand as cold temperatures as -10 degrees farenheight. They need adequate sunlight in the summer months. They require water throughout the year. They require slightly acidic soil, which has a pH range 6.0 – 6.5.

Plantation

The right time for the plantation is the early spring. In the winter, they are in dormant condition. Therefore, when the spring comes they start growing. You should maintain a space of at least 20-25 feet. If you are planting them in the containers then they should be at least 5-8 feet in height. The containers should have a diameter greater than 24 inches. In the young condition, they do not develop very strong roots. Therefore, the place should be such that they should be free from stress. To give an added support the soil should be should be thick, moisture holding. Digging deeper hole would be better.

Caring

In the beginning, you should regularly add water and fertilizers. It requires good amount of water. The fertilizer application should be moderate. In the beginning as they are not properly rooted, they need proper care from any physical damage. In addition, as the roots are not deep the superficial layer of the soil should contain adequate amount of nutrients.

You should do the proper cutting, pruning etc. this would facilitate good branching.

The advantages of the pear trees

They are the most widely used trees for plantation in the gardens andalso on the roads etc in the cold countries. They not only provide flowers in large numbers but also provide fruits. These fruits are edible and are very delicious.
