Select the plants that can grow in home orchard

The plants should bear fruits regularly and more frequently at least once a year. In addition, they should bear fruits in such a quantity that it should satisfy your need. The common trees for the home orchard are the apples, pears, cherries, maples, walnuts, grapes, plums, quince, etc, for the temperate countries. For the tropical countries, you can use plants like the mango

Select the dwarf varieties

The dwarf varieties have some advantages over the taller varieties. These include, that they grow up to a smaller height, and therefore it is easy to maintain them and their fruits. In addition, they mature comparatively earlier than the taller varieties. Therefore, you can get the fruits quicker. In addition to this, also the dwarf varieties are in most of the cases of better quality.

Select varieties that can grow in your area

It is the most important thing, as the tree may not grow in your area, and even if many of them grow, they will not flower and bear fruits. Therefore, as your main aim is getting fruits you should take this in to account. It would be best if you plant the trees that are local to your conditions. These plants would then produce fruits that are among the best of its type.

Select the more vigorous varieties

The more vigorous varieties are the varieties that show better growth and productivity. These days many artificial varieties are available.

Select the varieties that require low maintenance

Some varieties of the same plants need lesser water, sunlight, or nutrients, than the other varieties of the same plant. Therefore, you should select these varieties, as they would be better for maintenance.

Select the varieties that are resistant to the pests and diseases

The pests and diseases can be great problem in the home orchard. Therefore, it would be better if, you select the varieties that are resistant to them.
