Sanitation is an important factor in maintaining a good garden we are going to discuss it in this article:

Sanitation is an important aspect of gardening which many people tend to ignore. This is very important if you want your garden to have happy and healthy trees. Many fruit trees can be grown with the help of successful sanitation. So the use of chemical fertilizers can be minimized. This is possible only when it is combined with the program of integrated pest management.

The importance of sanitation:

Sanitation is important since it can drastically reduce the amount of inoculum which can prevent the starting of the disease it self. So the spores of bacteria, fungus and other insects will not germinate and grow. So importance of sanitation is tremendous. Removing and disposing the infected leaves, infected or dead branches sometimes when the whole plant is infected then you have to remove the whole plant itself. Many a times you have to burn the plants. So the sanitation gives a push to the integrated pests’ management program and will help to give good and better results to your spray. So sanitation is important for preventing the common diseases of the fruit trees. If you practice sanitation regularly then you will be successful in the management of the pests.

Effectiveness of Sanitation:

The method of sanitation is very important for the control of common fungal diseases and some insect pests which are spread through infected parts of the plants like infected leaves, infected stems and the other infected parts of the plants like branches or twigs. Donot compost this material in your home but burn it. Since in composting process the temperatures does not reach to the height of destroying the pests. If the trees are infected with fungal diseases then you have to destroy the leaves compulsorily. Other wise the fungal disease will spread rapidly. If you want to convert these parts of the plant into compost then give it to the municipal corporations to perform the process of hot composting which will kill majority of pests and insects present in those infected parts of the plant. Note that the fruits that are fallen should be destroyed as soon as possible but if in this case the imperfect fruit on the trees can be still eaten. For example the Apples with scabs can be eaten safely. Even wormy apples can be eaten with the help of proper cuttings with knife.
